About Phyllotaxis

Phyllotaxis is related to botany and refers to the arrangement of leaves on a plant stem. However it is not limit to just leaves, it is basically seen in most plants that grow in sprial patterns, like florets in a composite flower head, pinecones, flower petals, succulents, etc.

Biologists and mathameticians have been facinated by such patterns and spirals plants naturally grow in, and have developed various models for such phenomenon. This project uses one of the mathematical formula proposed by Vogel to obtain the polar coordinates of successive florets, where the divergence angle would determine what pattern would result. The default angle is set to 137.5 as it is the angle that allows all the dots to be densely packed together, and differing it by even just a little will result in a different sprial.
